SACOME Resources Treasure Hunt
What does managing our environment mean? Why is it important? How do explorers and mining companies minimise the impact of their activities on our environment? These were the questions set before parents and children who took part in the SACOME Treasure Hunt. This year’s event had an environmental flavour in celebration of the United Nations declaring 2010 International Year of Biodiversity. 150 budding scientists took to the streets of Adelaide on their very own ‘green’ adventure, exploring the land, water, air, waste and energy of our city to learn how they are managed in the Resources Industry
This year’s hunt was a fusion of environmental science, ecology and geology, and proves that SACOME is committed to nurturing the scientists, technologists and engineers of the future. None of this, however, could be achieved without the continued support of our members.
SACOME is very grateful to all its partners – including GHD, Adelaide City Council, Adelaide Festival Centre, State Library of South Australia, South Australian Museum, Department of Primary Industries and Resources SA and the Royal Institution of Australia. We would also like to thank the kind sponsors of our prizes: Adelaide Festival Centre, Monarto Zoo, GHD and Port Adelaide Football Club. RESA and the Department of Trade and Economic Development are major supporters of the SACOME careers promotion program.
